Children Learn "We Shall Overcome" on the Penny Whistle

Children at Charulata Bidyapith participated in an engaging music session on 24 July 2026 that combined learning, creativity, and teamwork. Rather than beginning with instrument practice, the session opened with a group conversation, creating a relaxed and encouraging environment for the children to share their thoughts and engage with one another.

Inspired by the discussion, several children independently attempted to play the opening melody of "We Shall Overcome" ("Amra Korbo Joy") on the penny whistle. Their enthusiasm quickly spread throughout the group, encouraging their peers to join in. As interest grew, the facilitator introduced the first section of the song, allowing the children to learn and play it together.

The session also included a review of previously learned musical concepts, including notes, rests, and scales. Demonstrating the progress they have made through regular practice, the children confidently performed Songs 1–10 from their music book from memory in reverse order. Their performance reflected increasing confidence, improved musical ability, and a strong commitment to learning.

The session concluded with outdoor group games, providing an opportunity for the children to strengthen friendships, develop teamwork, and enjoy learning in a positive and supportive environment.

The activities at Charulata Bidyapith continue to demonstrate how music can foster creativity, confidence, discipline, and collaboration, helping children develop valuable life skills while enjoying the learning process.
