Teaching Peace Through Music
Healing Through Harmony
These volunteers work with climate-affected children, street children, Rohingya refugees, and orphans, promoting peace and unity through music education.
The core mission of this internationally recognized initiative is to transform the lives of war-affected, mentally traumatized, underprivileged, and orphaned children. It seeks to promote peaceful and inclusive societies, directly contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions)
YASID’s music program, supported by PTMI (Peace Through Music International), trains young volunteers from Cox’s Bazar colleges and universities to play, teach, and use music as a tool for change.
The Power of Music: Mental Health and Development
YASID utilizes music because of its profound therapeutic and developmental effects, particularly on marginalized youth
Trauma Recovery
Music helps children get out of mental trauma, depression, and sadness, aiding recovery from memories of violence and displacement
Skills Building
Learning music helps children develop creative thinking, problem-solving skills, and the left side of the brain, which is key for language and social interactions.
Confidence & Leadership
The music class helps boost children's confidence and develops leadership skills from an early age.
Voices of Transformation
“Before I joined YASID's music school, I never thought I could learn music. Growing up in the camp, it felt like an impossible dream. But now, thanks to this program and our teachers, I’ve not only learned to play the pennywhistle but also it’s boosted my confidence and leadership skills where I lead my juniors in the class and earned respect from them.
Music has changed my life—it’s given me hope, joy, and a way to unite my community. One day, I want to be a musician who spreads love and peace through music. Thank you for helping me make this dream come true.”
Irfan – Age 16 (Rohingya Refugee Camp)
"Being a part of peace through music program has transformed my musical journey. It has
enhanced my teaching, communication, networking, and leadership skills while boosting my
creativity and problem-solving abilities. Most importantly, it taught me the value of teamwork.
This experience has not only improved my music but also helped me grow as a person. Through
this program, I found an amazing way to work for the world. Thanks to PTMI and YASID for
everything"
Nisan – Age 21 (Volenteer)
"After joining the music school, I’ve discovered a new version of myself. It gave me courage, relieved stress, and empowered me. Whenever I feel sad I play pennywhistle. If I miss any class I can’t sleep that night well. It inspires me more when my juniors respect me. This program is a blessing for me.”
Kulsoma – Age 16 (Najirar Tek the Climate Refugee)
"Before joining the music classes at Najirar Tek, I used to work in a dry fish farm and never had the chance to think about my future. But now, everything has changed. I’m known in Cox’s Bazar for my pennywhistle playing, and my confidence and leadership skills have grown so much. My family is proud of me, and it’s all because of this music program. It has truly transformed my life."
